130 cm Red Cocucha pottery

130cm Cocucha

Red Cocucha pottery in garden setting
Cocuchas display well in "juegos" (sets). Pictured here is a 130cm, 140cm, and 150cm (left to right).
Cocucha BIG Pots are available in roja y negra (red and black). Pictured here are the red cocucha BIG Pots.
The red Cocucha BIG Pot is coated with a red clay slip ("cinnabar") before firing. Fire flash markings are very apparent. No other materials are burnt into the surface. There are no other glazes or coloring agents. The red cocucha displays exceptionally well in a garden or patio setting.
You don't see many red cocucha BIG Pots outside of Mexico because the red clay surface is more easily damaged in shipment than the black surfacing, and harder to repair. Cocuchas.com, after packing each cocucha with TLC, hand-delivers each cocucha to your doorstep and guarantees that they are as perfect when you receive them as they were when they were packed.

Cocucha Care: Cocuchas can be placed inside or outside. Even though they are water urns, to insure a long life when placed outside, they should be water-sealed yearly using a stone sealer. The sealer also protects them against the hot, summer sun. We use the Home Depot saltillo tile sealer. In areas where temperatures drop below freezing, they should be brought inside during the winter.

If you like, you can "adorn" your cocucha. A platform placed over the mouth of the cocucha can be used to place art objects and/or plants on top of the cocucha. The end result can enhance the already dramatic cocucha presentation.
If your cocucha is placed where it can get wet, it is a good idea to have a piece of round glass cut about 3 inches greater in diameter than the outside lip measurement and placed over the lip to keep the inside of the cocucha dry. Another option is a copper cocucha sombrero available through Cocuchas.com. Also, when needed, we recommend the purchase of a forged iron base to protect the cocucha from standing water. (Available from Cocuchas.com). And, if your cocucha is exposed to the elements, you will want to seal it every three months or so.
