About
Our Works
by Teresa Turrou-Bressert, "la dueña"
I
am one of the fortunate "gringas" who lives in Patzcuaro,
Michoacan, Mexico, the center of the folk art scene of Mexico. It
is said that there are over 100,000 artesanos in Michoacan.
Patzcuaro as a place to live first caught my eye when I saw one of
these gigantes in a store front in Puerta Vallarta. When I saw it, immediately
I did a 180 and went into the shop to inquire as to where it was made.
"Patzcuaro", I was told. So, cocuchas put Patzcuaro on the
map for me. |
| Going
into the villages and meeting the people who express life through
their art is a peak experience for me. Their "realness"
and graciousness vibrates with the joy vibration within me. As their
art feeds their soul, sharing their art feeds my soul. |
| I started a website gallery
The Art of
Mexico in 2004 to share "real" folk art at the retail
level; Michoacan
Art for the Trade in 2005. Living in Patzcuaro, I am able to constantly
monitor the art scene in Michoacan through the contacts I have made
through the years. |
| But first and foremost
is my passion for cocuchas. I have lots of cocuchas. I walk by them,
or look at them and I feel the power of the earth grounding me, or
maybe it is cell memories of ancient times. Quien sabe?... But, it
feels good! The truly artful, majestic, museum quality cocuchas available
through Cocuchas.com are the most "mystical" I have found
yet. Cocuchas are truly a bridge spanning modern time to an ancient time and place in history, the world of our ancestors. |
