The second daughter, Carmen age 14, who had just graduated from “secondaria” when this photo was taken. Carmen has learned to build smaller cocuchas. Recently, when Francisca and Felix were working on a large order, Carmen built smaller cocuchas to be sold at the yearly Semana Santa (Easter) tiangis, and she and her brother spent the week in Uruapan alone without their parents selling what she had made, a huge responsibility. Carmen wants to move to the states now that she has completed school, but her mother does not agree that it would be the best choice for her.
The youngest daughter, Maria age 5, and youngest son, Elias age 4. Maria and Elias were fascinated by the camera, and wanted me to “playback” again and again and each time they saw their fotos, they would want to pose again for another one.

The mother of Felix pictured with her youngest son, age 12. Maria taught Felix and Francisca how to make cocuchas five years ago. Both she and her son live with them. “Every woman in Cocucho knows how to make cocuchas”, she told me
